Craft Based Videos Created by Women

Women create all kinds of video content. The crafting community is no exception.

This video by Corrinne at Craftvision for the magazine Craftzine on Top 10 Favorite DIY Wedding Dress Ideas and Inspirations.

Just as there are a bunch of people who do not want to get traditionally married there are folks that do but they want their own look and style to be represented. There are others that want to look good but do not have the cash for a $15,000 gown.

For the DYI folks, this is for you.

Weight Loss For Deb

It is the time when the oppressive infomercials appear on broadcast and cable television. And the diet ads. And the Perfect people who implore you to spend mega bucks on getting the perfect body.

What if you are a real person? A person with a body that you have to take care of but you will never, ever be 5 feet and 7 inches? You know what? You do what you can where you can.

This is Deb Roby and she is demonstrating 10 examples of stuff you can do from home. Deb has a blog called Weight Loss for Deb where she talks about the truth of losing and gaining weigh.

It is a challenge and a process that does not involve tanning, Daisy Dukes or greasing up your legs so that they shine pretty for the camera.

Coconut Oil Hair Care Tutorial Videos

Hair is a powerful subject for women. It touches emotions, rights and definition. There is a genre of user generated videos strictly about hair and hair care.

Many are making the transition from processed to natural natural hair:

There is even a sub-genre of coconut oil based hair care videos. I need to help out the folks that don't cook. Not the stuff you put in alcoholic drinks. Not the stuff in the pink cans at the supermarket. No, really not at all the same thing.

You buy true coconut oil at health food stores. There is nothing in the jar except 100% coconut oil. This is Andrea with her Coconut Oil Demonstration:

Not only are folks talking about coconut oil but they throw in a little something extra. You can do it with Saran Wrap:

If you can't find it in the store then you can make some at home. This is TheWomanInside demonstration video on how to crack that nut.

Each one, teach one.

Adrianne George - Black Women In Europe Power List

I met Adrianne a few years ago at BlogHer. She is an American Expat living in Europe. This is a simple but powerful video.

Per Adrianne:

Women on the Black Women in Europe™: Power List include seasoned politicians, accomplished performers, and champion athletes as well as social entrepreneurs and rising stars in the business world. “This list will serve as a source of inspiration to black women everywhere”

Sometime you just need words and pictures to tell your story. When we think of Europe we don't think of the black women and women of color who not only live in Europe but are helping to transform and advance that section of the world.

This is Adrianne's video on the Black Women in Europe Power List. For more information about what folks are doing across the creek visit Adrianne's blog Black Women in Europe.

How Art Shapes Culture - Thelma Godden

Maybe we are in the fix we are in culturally is because we are art deprived. We need a more expansive view of ourselves via art.

In this 2009 TED presentation Thelma Godden talks about the ways that art can be transformative for a community and how art can lead to the next level of cultural definition.

Karen's Montage of BlogHer 10 in 4 Days and 4 Minutes

Karen Walrond is a photographer, blogger and Contributing Editor at BlogHer. This is a great example of combining photos and videos to tell a story.

It is also a great opportunity to actually look at women. These are real people without the need for grease paint and stylists. Karen's skill behind the lens allows the person to feel comfortable in being themselves.

Fannie Lou Hamer - PSA Project

This is a examples of how women can do their own advocacy PSA about issues that they care about. This my example of taking the words of hate and having a historical figure refute them. This is the magnificent Fannie Lou Hamer.

So this is a topic area that I identified as a need that can be addressed. We don't have to wait for M$M to get it cuz it brings them no profit to do so. Where I live they no longer show PSAs on commercial television unless the show is so bad that they can't get advertising for it.

The tools are simple. Audio, photo animation program that could be built in your video editing program and text. We have the power, let the change come forth.

Grace :: The Story of the Remote :: Dirty Joke

Learn to listen.

Here's a telling of "The Story of the Remote".

The image is from an earlier post wherein I show you part of the woman who speaks in this podcast

The upside of the dismal-looking and feeling foot situation is that she has a better way to flip her husband the bird.

She is my hero.

Her humor in the face of enormous pain astonishes and inspires.

Music is "Mother's Blues" from Jeff Kelley's Classic Acoustic Blues album - about whom I've written in this space before.

Formats available: MP3 Audio (.mp3)

Art and Eros in Los Angeles

It was like any gallery show. Some good, some base level art work and a couple of exceptional pieces. They had to be, they cost at least $4,500 and up.

The piece that I like the best was the white marble with the hips and thighs just like mine!

The images are of an explicit nature. Seriously explicit. If you have trouble with naked fruit of a human nature you aren't gonna like this. Absolutely not safe for work.

Headbone Blues or A Bald Scalp Lament

Sometimes you have to stimulate yourself. Physically. Creatively. Emotionally. There are other times when things happen and you move forward.

I can't sing even carrying a reinforced bucket but it was the only way I could figure to express these sentiments. Bald is cool and more women should try it for a little while. Especially for the summer.

But for those that have no choice about hair loss for whatever reason I just wanted to give a little bit of a smile and a wink.

This music is from Ralph Woodin, the track is called Bent Sling Blues and you can find it on the Internet Archive.

Confessions :: PostSecret

I love PostSecret. It's a photocast. It's arte postale. It's a collaboration. It's a book: PostSecret: Extraordinary Confessions from Ordinary Lives. Anybody can play. It has a life outside the digital realm.

Do you have a particular quality that lets you get away with a lot of shit?

What are your secrets?

Would you be more honest if you could spill your secrets anonymously?

Have always thought one of the great things about Catholicism is its ritual of confession.

I feel better just thinking about finding and telling a secret.

I miss posting here in the throes of winter busy-ness, but wanted you to know I'm thinking of you. This image cried out to be posted here.

Musings From The Laundry Mat of Life - Imperfections

This is the 3.79MB Windows Media Version

This is the 3.41MB QuickTime Video

I have been struggling to get this out of my head. I had my own perfection issues to deal with. Mainly I'm not doing this right or perfect. It finally came down to do it and be done with it.

This is what I have figured out so far and was able to make a small demonstration video of a very big issue. I think if more of us could get a handle of what is being transmitted to our heads and see our true selves we could increase the mental health of this nation by a factor or ten.
