Craft Based Videos Created by Women

Women create all kinds of video content. The crafting community is no exception.

This video by Corrinne at Craftvision for the magazine Craftzine on Top 10 Favorite DIY Wedding Dress Ideas and Inspirations.

Just as there are a bunch of people who do not want to get traditionally married there are folks that do but they want their own look and style to be represented. There are others that want to look good but do not have the cash for a $15,000 gown.

For the DYI folks, this is for you.

Rebecca MacKinnon Talk at TED Global

It is true that the more freedom you think you have the more the powers that be want to take it away. For your own good of course. To protect you.

So they say.

There are voices that state otherwise; this is one of them in an excellent talk at the 2011 TED Global Conference in Edinburgh, Scottland.

Caroline Casey - Shamanic Astrology Part 1

This is Caroline Casey who has a radio show on KPFA called Visionary Activist. Those of you in the Los Angeles area can hear her show on KPFK 90.7 at 5:00am Friday mornings.

Caroline will take you places you did not know existed. Linguistically, it is like riding a bike and trying to keep up with the scenery as you pedal as fast as you can.

The word pictures and the full intent of meaning are for those that are open to just listening and being with what she has to say. You don't have to agree.

It might help if you don't at first. It is a challenge in this space and time just to have the patience to listen to another person without pressing fast forward.

Give it a go.

SIS Oral History Project - Mrs. Ann Cooper

This past weekend I asked an older poet when she would give me permission to record her on video. Her response was, "Probably never."

I respect her decision and will allow a few more months to elapse on before I ask again. But this video by the Spellman Oral History Project is the reason I keep asking older women to allow themselves to be recorded.

Mrs. Cooper at 108 has made her transition to the upper realm. In this short video she has graced us with a life that is far deeper than we know and has possible clues about on how shall we go forward.

2 Artists and Growing Window Farms.org

You can talk about how bad things are. If you have a lick of sense you can decide that finding answers is a whole lot more productive. Working with others to find a wide range of answers is even better.

Britta Riley and Rebecca Bray are artists who saw that there are better options that damning people to hell. Like maybe combining recycling and giving people the ability to grow their own food?

Here are more details about the project:

Kom maar op! - Esther Schouls VBW 2010

I haven't a clue as to what this video is about. It seems it is in a church or religious setting. It looks like a bible camp activities. I run it through Google Translate and it comes up with:

A fun way to view photos of the Vacation Bible Week held at the Zion Church, Alphen aan den Rijn

The language is Dutch by the way. VBW = Vacation Bible Week. Duh! Not Videoblogging Week. Oh well, to save face this is a chance to take a peak at folks across the creek.

Cat Lainé Talks About AIDG

It is not the time to be dormant. Perhaps we should expand from not just women creating videos but women using or appearing in videos to communicate to the broader world. This is Cat Lainé.

From the web site:

The Appropriate Infrastructure Development Group (AIDG) helps individuals and communities get affordable and environmentally sound access to electricity, sanitation and clean water. Through a combination of business incubation, education, and outreach, we help people get technology that will better their health and improve their lives.

Mena Trott At TED 2006

We are all running around doing, doing and trying to make the invisible real.

We rank and catalog what is and is not important. Worse, others who barely understand us rank and dispose of what they do not understand.

In this 2006 TED Talk Mena Trott makes the case that blogs and bloggers are a valid and essential part of the storytelling tradition. Mena is one of the founders of Six Apart. For more information and inspiration visit http://www.ted.com
