Fat Femme Mafia - Toronto Pride 2006

Watch the video
I'm leaving to go live in the woods for a month. No Computer, no keys, no wallet...just woodchipped paths through the forest, women working hard and a lot of fun with good friends. I'll be getting lots of video footage this year since I picked up a 1GB card the other day so I could shoot up to 60 mins of video and then dump to my iPod and shoot more...well - anyway, until I'm back with my michigan stories, I leave you with the Fat Femme Mafia's amazing dance routine from Toronto Pride 2006. Back on August 22nd.

I finally figured out a way to do a little "my life at work" without showing any faces (re confidentiality, etc, etc).

There is some nudity in this, so beware.

It's not real mind you, butt it's there.

Sketch - Do Something with a Blundstone Fundraiser

Watch the video

Christina Zeidler invited me to check out this really excellent event that Sketch is organizing. This is their third year doing this - Blundstone donates boots and artists are recruited to decorate them - an auction is held in October where boots are sold off to the highest bidder and the proceeds go to Sketch.

I have to say that when I walked into Sketch for the first time, I was so impressed by how vibrant and energetic the space was. Tons of folks making all kinds of different art. They have silkscreening, woodshop, photography and video as well as more traditional mediums like painting. You can go to their website for more information.

Support Sketch - make a donation of time, art supplies or anything else on this list

Watch Beach Walks with Rox #109

I met Jen of ebbandflow.tv online through the videoblogging community and finally got to meet her in person in San Francisco, the day we filmed this show. It is about balancing inner peace with outer action.

Selling out so soon? You just got here.

I just enabled advertising on my blip.tv account. Apparently this means that there might be a still or a video advertising after my video plays. Blip.tv will split the revenues from advertising 50/50 with me. I can't help it - I'm curious to see how much we're talking about here. Could this really be a way to make some money while doing something I already enjoy? I'd rather take money from folks who have it to give, like advertising, and I'm just gonna trust that blip.tv will match me up with good companies. I happily promote companies I like all the time for free - like blip for example...so I'm going to try this advertising out and see what shakes down. Fortunately it's an opt-in thing, so I can always opt-out like I did when I tried the LJ sponsored level for about an hour and then decided I didn't like how my journal page looked with ads on it.

The Last Shot

Watch the video

On June 13, 2006 - I injected my last shot of testosterone. It was 50% of my normal dosage. I had been weaning for a few weeks prior. 2 shots at 75% then 2 at 50%.

I'm mostly relieved that I am done shooting myself with needles. This weekend I was a bit moody and I think that it might have been in part due to withdrawal from hormones. Being on T was a really emotionally even experience and now that I am done - I wonder if I will find myself experiencing more of the emotional spectrum soon.

I also wonder when my period will start again.

In other news, I made white pepper creme brulee tonight.

The future of videoblogging for cash...

This article talks about how some companies are trying to entice video makers to pay money to make money off the content they upload.

I'm a bit at loose ends about what to make of this idea. Sure, I think that folks who make art should be compensated - I want artists to make money doing what they love. Hell, I work at a small non-profit distribution company who's main goal is to get money for artists of small, experimental films.

Here's the rub - the guy who does the Numa Numa dance and makes 18-35 year olds across the world laugh for a minute will get the most money, while the kid who makes the shaky-camera montage of his day at summer camp might get nothing...or peanuts. I could make up a million examples of this sort of imbalance.

Now this should come as no surprise to me - this is how the capitalist world works. So what am I going to do about it?

I don't know yet. Will keep thinking about it....

Last week I had the priviledge of spending a clinical day in the Emergency Department. It was an amazing, eye-opening experience. Hats off to ER nurses - you are a special breed. When the s@%t hits the fan, these folks are the embodiment of TEAMWORK. It was amazing to see what can be accomplished when a commited group of people band together for a greater purpose - the preservation of a human life. Thanks, Gena for reminding/encouraging me to xpost this here.

Here's a little ditty for We Are the Media's Challenge #2, which called for videos that include only parts of things. Nothing whole could be included in the visuals (nor, I presume, the sound). This one's about a couple dishes I whipped up this afternoon.
